Spring is in the Air

Spring is in the air here in Cuero. We have been very fortunate to have rain in our lives again after a long hard drought here in Southeast Texas. Everything is green and growing at a rate we can barely keep up with. Cris is mowing the yard (riding mower) every week now and loves having something to do. He will have to begin the mowing of the acreage with his tractor as soon as it is dry enough. He started down to the river to check on things and didn't get very far in the golf cart, he and the golf cart came back up covered in mud. We are planting some flower seeds today, hopefully they will do well. I will do flowers for two weddings this month and we celebrated the boys birthdays yesterday in Houston along with our daughter in law and the youngest son's girl friend and our grandson. It was a good outing for all of us behind some crazy storms that hit in the early hours of the morning. Cris and I traveled in the rain and lightening most of the morning, that was no fun. I must go out and tend to some of the yardwork so I will close for now. Let me know how you are enjoying spring!!!

Our Valentine's Day

What A Beautiful Day!!! Just a little cold here. HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY TO ALL!!! Cris and I went over to Shiner for our Valentine outing yesterday. It is so much more enjoyable to celebrate Valentine's Day without the crowds. There is a little steak house in Shiner called Werner's that I highly recommend if you are ever in that area. The drive in the country was great as well, the warmth of the sun was greatly welcome, just a little windy. I will make Cris a steak dinner tonight, he loves his beef. We will be very busy today. Cris is doing laundry, he took over that task years ago and he is much better at it than I was. It was like a dream for me as laundry was always one of my least favorite things to do. I love to clean house, love it, nothing like sitting down when your entire house has just been thoroughly cleaned and smelling great. We use all natural cleaners and detergents. Trying to save the planet one home at a time!!! We are also trying to give our kids and grandkids a chance to survive. Click on the Healthy Environment website!!! I will be working today. I am a marketing executive with an international pharmaceutical company and luckily I work from the comfort of my own home office. I have lots of advertising to do today so I better get to it.

Meeting My Family

Ok, so now for meeting my family. Husband Cris, Brain Injury Survivor, that beat a whole lotta statistics. Two sons, Gary 27 and Craig 23, different in most ways, the same in many ways, I know you know what I mean. Then along came Craigs son, Ashton 4-1/2, never in my wildest dreams!!! He has the biggest blue eyes, a smile that will light up a whole house, he has his fake smile too for pix. This grandchild is just......there is no word! GRAND Next entered my daughter-in-law Krissy , an angelic woman that shares an unconditional love with my son Gary. We have just met Craig's girlfriend Amanda and she appears to be a nice girl. We will work on getting to know her. Gary is working at a title company and studying the ministry, aiming to begin an internship with his church minister in the summer. Krissy is a choir director in the high school I graduated from (small world). She isn't even from that area. Craig is a departmental supervisor at a steel and alloy plant. Ashton goes to preschool and loves it. Ronald McDonald came to the school one day last week and I got a call that night from Ashton to tell me all about it and I could feel the excitement through the phone. It was a good day at school!!! Amanda works for a family Bed and Breakfast on a nearby island. Oh yeah, Gary and Krissy have a cat (pre Gary) named Lucy, she came into our family very shy but I think she is getting used to us picking her up and messing with her every time we come over. She is not picky in the mornings though, she will lay down so you can rub her tummy. My husband and I have 5 cows - I know they arent' supposed to be pets but guess what - they are. The leader of the team is Big B...., she got her name because when we first came to live here, we had 16 head of cattle and she was the leader and she lead by bitchery (if that is a word). Her name and personality are well suited. Then there is a semi-timid cow that we named Daisy - just cause that is the name that kept coming to mind. Then there is Luther Luedecke, Cris named him cause he liked the sound of it, he is the bull calf we kept last year when we sold off 13 head. BB (which is how we refer to Big B.... around young ones) and Daisy were keepers last year too. May 25th BB delivered Car Driver, a precious blonde bull calf (my favorite but don't tell the others) and named by Ashton after intense thought on it. July 4th Daisy delivered Jules, named for the month of July. I have a long time friend name Julie that I used to call Jules so I always think of her when I am around Jules the heifer calf (that means girl). We are getting a real education about cattle here. Each and every one of our pets have their own personality - it is amazing. I will introduce you to my Mom and 4 sisters and Cris' brother another day. Drizzling outside today. Well, I have work to do (from the warmth of my own home, thank goodness). Til tomorrow, stay warm.

Awesome Saturday

We are having an awesome day today. Fire in the fireplace, deer in the pasture, Eric Clapton on the stereo. It just don't get any better than this. I have been learning all about blogs and groups on Google and it was a real challenge to get these things done. I love a good challenge!! I work at home and am on the most dynamic marketing team ever. I am having a great time with this. I get up in the morning and ask my husband "do I look ok to go to the office" and he just laughs at me. One day I asked him "which slippers should I wear with these pjs to work today". Seriously, folks, I thank the lord above every day for the time we are able to spend together. Yippee!!!

Almost 15 years...

It has been almost 15 years since the phone call from the medics that were at the accident site. "Your family has been in a car accident and we need you to come and help calm your son down" My introduction to Traumatic Brain Injury. I began to read and study everything I could find on the brain and injury to the brain and since that time, I have been the primary caretaker for my husband. We now own a small ranch in Texas and are loving it. We have 50 acres and 5 head of cattle (it is amazing how fast a calf can become your pet) right on the Guadalupe River. My husband continues to suffer in his speech, balance and vision but is able to keep up with the mowing on our place with his tractor. He thrives on keeping active and with his balance issues it does present a challenge sometimes. So...almost 15 years later I have found an opportunity to work at home and continue to earn a living through this wonderful thing called the Internet. Click on the link "You Can Work At Home Too".
